Softball Unit Outline

 

 

Day 1:

  • Warm up
  • Extra long stretching period 
  • Kick ball

 

Day 2:

  • Warm up
  • Skill: Teach throwing and catching basics. Students practice with a partner while teacher watches and makes corrections.  Longest throw competition.
  • Game: divide the class into two equal teams and play for the remainder of the class.

 

 Day 3:

  • Warm up
  • Skill: Review throwing and catching basics with the addition of pop flies and grounders.  Teach batting technique.   Students will all get a chance to do batting practice while the rest of the class continues to practice throwing and catching. 
  • Game: divide the class into two equal teams and play for the remainder of the class.

 Day 4:

  • Warm up
  • Skill: Practice throwing, catching, grounders, pop flies, and batting basics. Students practice with a partner while teacher watches and makes corrections. 
  • Game: divide the class into two equal teams and play for the remainder of the class.

 Day 5:

  • Warm up
  • Skill: Infield Defense. Understanding covering the bases defensively, determining the cut-off man and the double play.
  • Game: divide the class into two equal teams and play for the remainder of the class.

 Day 6:

·        Warm up

·        Game Day: we will divide the class and play for the remainder of the period.

 Day 7:

·        Warm up

·        Game Day: we will divide the class and play for the remainder of the period.

Please bring outdoor shoes/cleats and your PE uniform for the baseball diamond. 

A water bottle, sunscreen, and hat should be brought for safety.

You may also bring your own baseball glove for comfort.
