Statement of Purpose
The High School Physical and Health Education program will inspire students to achieve the benefits of an active and balanced lifestyle. Exploration of activity and sport from around the world, instruction on effective athletic techniques, and empowerment in making healthy choices will provide a foundation from which students will excel in their lives. Physical Education classes will strive to improve students’ strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination while teaching them the value of teamwork and rules and how these relate to society as a whole. Health classes will focus on the Health Triangle, which includes Physical, Social, and Mental / Emotional Health. Students will learn about topics related to personal and lifetime fitness such as: Personal Safety, Physical Fitness, Growth and Development, Nutrition, Personal Responsibility, Body Systems, Mental / Emotional Health, Substance Abuse Prevention, Communicable and Noncommunicable Diseases, Stress Management, and Environmental Health.
Our program is committed to teaching students the power of educated choices and the fun of activity, whether competitive or cooperative, team or individual. The key to success in this program is for the students to take responsibility for their choices.
