Ceramics 1

Ceramics I is a one semester course. Ceramics I entails working with clay to create functional and imaginative objects. Students will be introduced to the course with a basic art history lesson of the origins of ceramics and pottery. Students will have the opportunity to work on a wheel for throwing pots, and learn basic techniques for free style hand building. There will be two major written assignments required during this semester. On occasion students will use the Mac computer lab for research exploring the claystation software. It is a creative and poignant way to develop artistic and original ideas.

Ceramics 2

This course will offer ceramics students the opportunity to pursue areas of interest in more depth, in the context of independent ceramic projects. New techniques for building with clay and further study of glazing and firing techniques will be investigated. Students are expected to have a good basic understanding of ceramics, reflected in their studio practice and working skills. There will be two major written assignments required during this semester. On occasion students will use the Mac computer lab for research and exploring the claystation software. At the end of the course there will be a student exhibition of your artwork.

Sculpture

Sculpture examines three dimensional design approaches from a variety of artists and art movements, using a range of materials and techniques. Looking at, writing about, and drawing the work of contemporary and traditional sculptors provides insight and inspiration into your own developing ideas that will be used in producing your sculpture. There will be two major written assignments required during this semester. On occasion students will use the Mac computer lab for research . Students will have the opportunity to work collboratively to create installation peices, which will be exhibited through out the campus.
